The Wonki Ware patterned dinner service is hand crafted by local artisans in the Western Cape of South Africa.
The 16-piece set comprises:
- 4 patterned dinner plates - mixed patterns
- 4 patterned side plates - mixed patterns
- 4 patterned pudding bowls - mixed patterns
- 4 patterned pasta bowls - mixed patterns
The patterns vary according to the shape, so you will receive four different patterns in each shape - see images for examples.
This mix of patterns has always been part of the Wonki Ware charm because it embraces the unique way in which different shapes, patterns and colours can complement each other so beautifully.
The first time you lay your table with a Wonki Ware dinner service or serve your summer salad in one of the iconic Wonki Ware salad bowls we can almost guarantee that everyone at the table will be impressed.
Feel free to tell them the story of this unique product or keep the secret to yourself...
Each piece is made entirely by hand, so no two pieces will ever be the same. There may be blemishes, colour differences or bumps and curves in different places. This is what gives Wonki Ware its unique beauty and charm. It isn’t machine made, it isn’t uniformly produced and, in our opinion, the minor imperfections are what help to make it practically perfect.
For guidance on what your dinner service will look like please read the following specifications:
- Dinner plates: 29cm diameter
- Side Plate: 23cm diameter
- Pudding bowls: 16 x 4 cm
- Pasta bowls: 23 x 5 cm
The patterns will vary according to the shape, so each shape will have a different pattern.
If you want your dinner service to look the same then we suggest ordering a plain wash dinner service as there is no variation in pattern on this.
Also available in: Warm Grey, Blue or Charcoal.
Colours can't be mixed in the dinner service.
Dishwasher Safe: The plates and bowls are safe to be put in the dishwasher, please just take care to stack the items carefully and don't lean heavy items on them.
A Customer Story:“Our Wonki Ware dinner service was given to us as a gift. At first we were almost too nervous to use it, “saving it for best” while we wheeled out the trusty old white plates for daily use. But when we discovered that the plates and bowls could be washed in the dishwasher we started to use them more confidently. Now the simplest meal looks so lovely and we feel so proud when friends come for dinner and we serve it on our Wonki Ware plates! Every single person comments on it and it honestly just makes everything look better! We even let the children use the side plates for their beans on toast – best looking supper in town and so far no breakages! …"
BEFORE MAKING AN ONLINE PURCHASE IT’S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE UNIQUE NATURE OF WONKI WARE:
Every single piece of Wonki Ware is made by hand.
From a delicate salt dish to a generous trough platter, each piece goes through the same creative process, which sees the clay moulded, shaped, smoothed and painted during 15 different stages on the journey from clay to table.
Because each piece is made by hand, no two pieces will ever be the same. There may be blemishes, colour differences or bumps and curves in different places. This is what gives Wonki Ware its beauty and charm. It isn’t machine made, it isn’t uniformly produced but, in our opinion, the minor imperfections are what help to make it practically perfect.
